PACE stands for “Parents Active in Cooperative Education.”
We are a choice educational enrichment program offered at Lockwood Elementary through Northshore School District (NSD) for grades 1-5.
PACE builds a learning environment that includes active family participation; to support each student’s learning style and developmental rate; innovative teaching techniques; and a unique partnership of teachers, families and students.
We value respect, compassion, and responsibility in building our community of lifelong learners.
The PACE program serves students of all learning capabilities, follows the NSD curriculum and also provides an enriched educational experience through additional field trips, events, and speakers.

Recognition Awards
It’s been our annual tradition to recognize and award fellow Lockwood volunteers, staff, and educators for all their hard work and dedication to Lockwood Elementary and our students. Please help us do that by nominating online under each category. You can also nominate on paper by using our nomination flyers located in the school front office.
Our PTA is looking for nominees in three categories:
OUTSTANDING ADVOCATE – recognizes an individual who has demonstrated a commitment to helping create strong policies for the health, welfare, safety, or education of children and youth.
OUTSTANDING EDUCATOR – recognizes an educator who has made significant contributions to enhance the educational outcomes of children and youth. An educator may be defined as a teacher, assistant, specialist, support staff, administrator, or community member.
GOLDEN ACORN AWARD – recognizes a volunteer for their dedication and service to children and youth.
Nominating is open till April 30, 2025. Winners will be announced during the May 13th PTA General Meeting. For questions, email: goldenacorn@lockwoodpta.org

We would love for you to join our program.
PACE at Lockwood will conduct 2025-2026 school year tours soon! Join us on one of our tours to learn more about the program and to see if it would be the right option for your family.
Tours run from October 2024 through February 2025 with virtual or in-person options.

Are you new to PACE this year? Have lots of questions? The PACE New Family Mentor team is here for you, to make your transition into PACE as smooth as possible. If you have a question and don’t know who to ask, or just feel like you’re in the dark, please contact us.
Also, soon we will be reaching out to you to introduce you to your “buddy family” (a PACE family who has a student in your student’s class). Your “buddy family” will be another resource for you to rely on as you navigate your first year of PACE.

PACE New Family Mentoring
Nominate a lifesaver!
We’ve just started a new recognition for our PACE Community.
We want to recognize:
– Whole-heart volunteerism,
– Going above and beyond with your volunteering and community role.
Recipients will receive recognition in the PACE Broadcast along with a mini token of gratitude (Lifesaver candies).
Background Checks & Approved Volunteer Status
New to Volunteering:
All volunteers in Northshore School District are required to complete an online volunteer application to volunteer during the school year. It is also important to note that all volunteers who have completed a background check in the past will be expected to renew their volunteer application annually.
Step One – read through the Northshore School District Volunteer Orientation.
Step Two –
- Classroom(in-person or virtual) and/or on-campus volunteers during school hours – complete a background check (level 1) through Safe Visitor Solutions. This background check is through the Washington State Patrol System which many of you are familiar with. More information about background checks are provided in the Northshore School District Orientation. *
- Field trip chaperones/after-school chaperones and/or drivers – complete a background check (level 2) through Safe Visitor Solutions.
To ensure that your application is approved on time, apply minimum 2-3 weeks prior to your first day of volunteering.
Renewal of Your Volunteer Status:
Over the summer you should have received your “SafeVisitor Approval Expires in 30 days” notice. This is your yearly notice for your Level 1 background check renewal.
Please use the link in your email before it expires to renew your background check. Do not let your Level 1 expire or your Level 2 will become invalid and you will need to complete both (and pay) again.
Once completed, forward the approval email with the volunteer badge attachment (new and renewal) to volunteer@paceatlockwood.
